Institutional demography

As at 31st December 2001, 9,707 establishments were registered with the Register of Commerce and Companies of the CCI Quimper Cornouaille (non-agricultural trade excluding professionals and craftsmen who are only registered with the "Répertoire des Métiers").

In 2001, the demographic assessment of businesses in Cornouaille was positive, with an additional 105 establishments This increase is one of the best results in recent years, even if the number of registrations and cancellations has shown a marked drop over the past year.

In total, over the past 6 years, Cornouaille has registered 356 additional establishments, more than half of which are business service activities. Figures for individual services, agricultural and fishing activities (agricultural contractors, nurserymen, gardeners, fishing boat owners) as well as industry show a positive evolution. However, the economic fabric of Cornouaille lost 55 shops and 49 hotels, cafés and restaurants between 1996 and 2001.
