Overview of the economy of Cornouaille

Industry

Cornouaille had 21,376 jobs in industry in 1999. The Food Industry predominates over those of semi-finished goods, (paper, cardboard, packaging), capital goods and consumer goods (textiles, clothing). The local production fabric consists of a large number of very small businesses and small and medium-sized businesses. About 50 companies employ more than 100 people.

Agriculture and fishing have led to the creation of a dense and diversified agro-industrial infrastructure including slaughterhouses, meat processing plants, canneries, ready meal production units and packaging factories. These are often situated in rural areas and contribute greatly to the economic life of small towns. In Cornouaille, the food industry is responsible for one job in two in the industrial sector. The manufacture of polystyrene food trays, iron and aluminium cans, cigarette papers represents the main activity of the following companies: Bolloré Technologies (Ergué-Gabéric), Papeteries de Cascadec (Scaër), Papeteries de Mauduit (Quimperlé), Franpac (Douarnenez), Ferembal (Moëlan/Mer), Isobox Technologies (Bannalec).
